Scary Contact Lenses – Makes Eye-Popping Fright With Colors

Every year before Halloween scary contact lenses makes eye-popping fright with colors like green dragon, gold vampire or black wolf on novelty shelves. 

Why Do You Wear Scary Contact Lenses? 


Scary contact lenses are purely for the cosmetic purpose they do not aid vision. You can use them to change the color of your eyes, or give a cat or snake eye effects for Halloween or fancy dress for any party round the year. 




Are contacts lenses safe? 


As these lenses are used for a cosmetic purpose and not specifically made for correcting your eyesight – means they can be readily available at beauty-saloon or any other cosmetic store or even you can buy them online. But they give you neither warranty nor take responsibility for any misshapen occur with your eyes. It doesn’t necessarily mean scary contact lenses are safe to wear because they are being sold to you. 


According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration1, the consumer should not use such lenses without the valid prescriptions, from a beauty salon, flea market, beach shop or online. Decorative contact lenses or any other Halloween scary contact lenses can cause a variety of serious issues or risks including corneal ulcers, corneal abrasion, vision impairment, rarely, it can lead to blindness. 

Even if you have perfect vision, you need a doctor’s visit to use contact lenses and get proper measurement and fittings. Prescription includes curvature, size, and dryness of the eyes. There is no one-size-fits-all contact lens because everyone’s eye shape is different. 


Improper fitting can scratch the eyes or cause blood vessels to grow into the cornea, which transmits and focuses light onto the eye. Abrasion is like a cut on your hand, it is open to bacteria and if it becomes infected and not treated on time, you can get a scar. Scarring can damage vision and even in some cases require a corneal transplant that can leave you with a lifetime risk of complications. 


How Can You Wear Them Safely? 


Knowledge and correct information about keeping your contact lenses clean and wearing them properly will make you ease and take out your phobias of inserting lenses into the eyes or danger of something touching your eyes. 


1. Talk to Optometrist 


An optometrist is the most qualified person who can address your fears and concern regarding scary contact lenses. He/she will be aware of the issues such as dry eyes, infections, pain or discomfort as well; he/she also knows how to take care of many fears and solution to protect your eyes from any serious disease. 


2. Talk to your friends/family member 


As an alternative talk to your friends or family members regarding their fears, if any and how they overcame them 


3. Practice for several days 


Take your time, try to get used to touching your eyes by practicing for several days before purchasing scary contact lenses. You will become more confident as well desensitize to object near your eyes. 


4. Wash your hand 


Make sure good hygiene by washing your hands thoroughly with a mild non-cosmetic soap, perfumed oil, and lotion soap and dried with a towel.  


Keep fingernails short to avoid scratching or damaging your eyes. Before putting on scary contact lenses avoid cream, lotions, or any moisturizer. Remove lenses immediately if you have pain or discomfort, red or itchy eyes, puffing, and swelling or blurriness.
