Avoid Swimming in Contact Lenses

Your eyes are an incredibly delicate part of your body and if you are a regular wearer of contact lenses; do not mix lenses and water, whether you have unintentionally splashed it in your eyes or have tried to use it in place of multipurpose solution. Water is not good in and around your contact lenses, even swimming is not different.

The reason why you should avoid letting the water come into contact with your lenses, as water is the home of large numbers of organisms and bacteria. Exposing your lenses to water can cause anything from irritation to serious infection. If you are uncomfortable, immediately take out contact lenses, wash your eyes properly and contact your eye doctor.

Safety always comes first. It is good practice to remove your contact lenses before you go swimming. However no need to be unduly worried. Follow some tips to ensure that you can manage to stay cool over the weekend and consider your eye health at the same time.

Use Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

For swimming, daily contact lenses are the best to wear because you can throw them out when you are done. Make sure to rinse your eyes with moisturizing drops before putting in the new lenses. In case, you do not have daily disposable lenses, always remove and clean them with the solution immediately after swimming.

If after swimming you feel your eyes are irritated or sensitive to light for a long duration, immediately contact to eye doctor to make sure that it is not a serious problem or cause of any damage to your eyes. One of the rare disease Acanthamoeba keratitis, in which amoebae invade the cornea of the eyes, if left untreated can cause permanent vision loss or blindness.

By paying attention to your contact lenses and being careful while using them, you are likely to be able to keep looking your best.
